Default FLHX wind turbulence

Hey all, I just switched from an 09 Fatboy to an 09 Street Glide. The Glide is bone stock. My first ride last week was awful due to the turbulence created by the windshield and ferring. My head to shook uncontrollably any time I went over 40mph..not fun when you can't focus on the road! I went to the local dealer and they recommended changing the windshield so I did..to a 'medium' sized one with a slight curve upward on the top of it. This helped but it's still not great. My next step is to change the seat to one with a lower riding position so I can get behind the windshield a bit more.

Does anyone have any other suggestions in the event the seat does not solve the problem? Also, any recommendations for a low nice looking 2-up seat?

Thanks in advance.

Those little shields look good but arent good for much as you now know. Look at aftermarket windshields with a recurve. Also 9" shields seem to be the minimum that lots of people like. Im 6'03 and I have really no choice other than a full size. If your eyes look just over the top of the shield at your normal riding position that is usually the optimal size.

My 2¢

Just call me crazy... I sold my '07 street glide for mainly that reason.... turbulence

I went back to the softail heritage.

I tried all, well most, of the tricks to reduce the turbulence but was not happy with the results. I figured if I was going to spend my time and money making the bike "mine" it should look how I want it to look instead of how it had to look to make the ride comfortable.

My 08 Street I get some turbulence, but it can be stopped by adding a tall shield. I really don't consider it that big of an issue, only because I rode so many years without a windshield. But it is an announce.

I run the 8.5" flare. I get a little turbulence but that could be fixed with a taller windshield. Im not going to go with a taller one though, 8.5" is taller than I like (lookswise) already.

If you can live with the looks of a taller windshield than the medium one, that will solve the problem. I have a 10" on my 07 and it made all the difference in the world and solved the turbulance problem. The scoot doesn't look as good but I'm at the age where comfort takes priority over looking cool.

Taller Windshield will help. I had the dealer install a 8" shield and that helped tremendously. I'm 5'10".

Also do a search on here on what others have done to make it better as I remember seeing a thread where some people have put the air wings on their bikes and that helped as well.

Good luck!

I have a 6.5 klockwerks windshield on my 09 and I'm 5'10 with very little wind buffeting. Since its getting cold out I installed the fairing wind deflector thingies not sure what there called but they mount on the bottom outside edge and you can open and close them to direct the wind and they helped tremendously.

8" works well and still has has that cool look, I have a 10" long ride shield but didn't care for the look.
