Default Anyone having trouble with HD backrest?

I am having trouble getting my backrest back far enough to be where I want it. I took it back to the last holes in the bracket, sundowner seat does not want to go on now.

Mines not that far back but i have to ask, how do you fit in the seat if the backrest is going to be that far back? If your that tall you might want to look at the tall boy seats? I think the back rest is made to work with all the seats but only at certain positions for certain seats, ie I don't think it will work with a reach seat and trying to put the rest to far back or a tall boy seat and trying to put it on the closest setting.

Evidently the sundowner underside is not made to have the backrest back on the last hole. I am not that tall, I just dont want to be pushed forward.
I may be going to a mustang backrest. Is a mustang rest straighter up and down?

xd, I had the same problem. The backrest just seem to push me too far forward and could not get it to work in the last hole with the sundowner. Eventually I sold the seat and backrest and went with a Mustang. I got the super tourning seat. It's large, but the back rest is adjustable a bit, but sits me back far enough that I'm comfortable.

That's a common complaint with the HD backrest. You can bend the bracket or put some washers under the mount. Best bet is to get the Mustang.

Bending the "legs" of the bracket is a common job to move the pad back further.

Are we talking about the adjustable (the one with the button to move it up or back) backrest or the one that can only adjust by changing the mounting holes underneath the seat?

Sounds like the non adjustable. The adj. only has single bolt holes.

Unfortunatly the HD backrests are mostly onesize fits all. Take it to a welder and have them cut about 3/4" out of the middle of the support bar off and then reweld. This will help it set the backrest lower on your back and not expose so much of the suppost tab while its on your bike. You can also have the welder heat and bend the support tab back a little to fit the lean angle you need. Ive alway liked my backrest as low as they will go against the seat to give my lower the most support.
