True duals or 2-1....
#12
When I went true duals, I looked at a lot of systems and decided on the V&H Dresser Duals. I think the best true dual design is 2-2, especially on a bagger. I don't like to see an empty space on the left side under the saddlebag. 2-2 creates a true stereophonic sound, it balances exhaust equally between the 2 mufflers, and it reduces heat because there's no collector which acts as a bottleneck like on a 2-1-2.
You will lose a little bit of low end torque, enough to be noticeable but nothing dramatic.
It all depends what your objectives are. Mine were 1) heat reduction and 2) better sound. If performance is more important to you than heat, then a 2-1-2 or a 2-1 will be a better solution.

It all depends on what is important to you. Some guys want a cretain look. Others want sound, guys like me want performance. I had V&H true duals on my Streetglide. I got a smokin' deal on a Fat Cat. The Fat Cat 2 into 1 gave me 10 more h.p. and more tq too on the dyno too. The real deal though is that the low end grunt, throttle response difference at lower rpms, where you usually are when riding a bagger, was unbelievable. That bike is way more fun to ride with the Fat Cat than it was with the true duals. Both set ups were dynoed with a SERT.
