the 30/60/30X10 is a good break in but just ride it and change the oil soon. All my old race bikes were broken in the way I was going to ride them works well too. Being to conservative or just flogging her is what you want to stay away from. Enjoy you ride dude.

The key thing about varying speed is that the piston rings need to seat on acceleration as well as deceleration.
Make sure you do enough decell work on the new engine.

This is like a "what oil should I use" question. Get a hundred responses and nearly that many different opinions. Therefore, it's really up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

But just for the record, for the first 500 miles on my new bike, there were no steady speeds, no full throttles, no very long runs (so it could heat cycle a few times) and then an oil/filter change. The next 500 miles I rode it progressively harder and at a 1,000 it was anything goes. Then a second oil/filter change at about 1400 miles.

By the amount of metal in the oil, I'm glad I did that first change at 500miles and didn't wait for 1,000.

There you have my 2 cents.

I agree that trip is a great way to break in the motor. Enjoy the ride on your new bike, you lucky cuss. The interstate portion, do not maintain a steady rpm. It's lame, but change your speed up and down, don't maintain the same rpm's.

do the 30 - 60 - 30 in 3rd gear for 10 times and consider the motor broken in. change the oil at 100 miles...should be good to go. do a search on the 30/60/30 break-in here on the forum...lots of people swear by it.
