I'm a DIY (cheap) kind of guy. Wondering if the big bore kit is something I can tackle? Cams sound too complicated. But how hard to switch out the cylinders and pistons? I've never rebuilt an engine but taken a few apart to see what makes em run. Anyone done this at home or is this a shop job? I watched a you tube video and it looks like something I can manage.
You need to do the BB kit, and cams. The stock cams are smog friendly. They have zero overlap, which is good for emissions, but lousy for performance. (actually negative 5* overlap) You need a little more lift, duration and overlap to feed the motor, especially if you're upping your displacement.
Set your compression at 10.2 to 10.4 static or so, and a whole bunch of performance cams become viable. If you do this smart, you can easily add 30 hp and even more torque and still have a reliable, streetable bike.
