I work for a large multinational electronics company and hold 32 patents. There are a number of reasons why we write patents. Sometimes it's because we have developed or are going to develop technology we intend to take to market. Sometimes it's because we want to build our portfolio to be in a position to negotiate cross licensing with other companies in the same business. Sometimes its just to block another company from doing the same thing. Of my 32 patents probably no more than a half have actually been incorporated into products that were brought to market. Therefore I see no reason to conclude from the 2010 patent on water cooled heads that Harley will release a bike with this feature although they certainly may.

Harley attempted to trademark (not patent) the sound of their motorcycles. After 6 years of legal wrangling they eventually gave up and there is no trademark on the sound a Harley makes.

I would not hesitate to get a factory touring bike with a similar engine as the VROD. I've owned one since 2008 and have yet to do anything to it mechanically than replace a voltage regulator, a few fuses and change the oil twice each riding season. I still have it in my garage but under the ownership of my wife. I got her a 2011 Muscle, but we got rid of that for our daughter's Sporty 72. I agree with the "VRod is not the touring platform" but is exactly what it's intended to be for its class, which is still undefined. There is no other bike that sounds even close. I will never ride anything else without a Fairing though. I do miss everyone hoarding around it like it was a two headed unicorn though, now my wife gets attacked with all the questions, like what the F is that thing? I use to joke when The V was mine, I use to say "I wish Honda made this bike, then I would be able to have two of em". This is what's left of the Nightrod Special after I got my dirty little mitts on it.

ps. VROD basher's, bash away, I've got a sweet *** bagger in the garage too!!!

thats a bad looking bike. you sir have a nice touch.

There has been a big debate on this thread as to whether a Revolution motor can be tuned to work in a touring platform and as to whether different cams would affect the torque. Different cams affect the torque in Twin Cam motors so I don't see why they wouldn't do the same in a Revolution motor. There are other things that can be done to increase torque. Besides a cam change, changing the compression, the length of the stroke, the size of the valves, the bore of the throttle body, and cam timing will all affect the torque. Before diesels were available for light trucks, automobile engines were reconfigured and tuned to give more torque at low rpm's for use in trucks. Though the Revolution engine is a race horse now, it could be made into a Clydesdale if the MOCO desires to use it in a touring platform.
