How do you determine how much dyna beads to use?

This is all for the future. I'll be buying the tire sometime and storing it away (or... is that a bad idea?) since I just got a new tire put on a week ago.

2 oz. MT, 3 oz. CT (or more). I'd be loathe to buy a tire too early; 6 years old is the very oldest you want to run, and not getting a fresh one, plus waiting to wear one out makes it older. But if you need the 175/75/16, there may become a shortage later, since there's only one tire sold here in the US.

I would wait until you need it to buy the tire. You should never buy a tire more than a year old, that will give you several years to use it and still stay in the safety zone. Mounted or on a shelf makes no difference. Check the manufacture date on the side of the tire when you buy it, tell the seller you want a new tire and will be checking to make sure that it is.

I think you got lucky on that one. I've read that spin balancers will show a tire out of balance with beads in them. Something about no centripedal forces to make the beads settle where they need to. Your bike suspension and the flex of the tire on the road, OTOH, creates this force.
BTW Dog, lovin' the extended forks better each day! Get back to me with that measurement, k?

I'll bet it's gonna be another company shill session.
Noticed today that my Vredestein now has 22,900+ miles on it - dang thing just won't wear out...still got a ways to go. Panic stop the other day, it saved me and the wife, no doubts there.

I would reserve judgement until after the presentation if I were you.

Has anyone done any braking distance comparisons with a CT vs. an MT? If up to 80% or so is done by the front wheel, just how many feet did you avoid the hazard by?

One foot. Here is the post I made about it:
Ok, maybe not so dramatic in reality, but... Just today I went with the wife to a rider seminar/cone practice, with the Faith Riders, a deputy motor officer and some odd folks from other rides. I got to play in the cones with my CT as usual, but with my new 2" overstock front tubes - and noticed no difference at all, still making 17' circles with ease!

So...all happy and heading home on a beautiful day (that started in rain), we followed an SUV thru a light, perhaps 3 car lengths behind and suddenly, this FREAKIN' MORON cuts across the SUV's path to get into a business driveway AND STOPS IN THE ROAD, causing him (the SUV) to lock up all four, - right in front of me and the lady.
I'm totally thinking about only ONE thing..."don't lean, don't lean, go straight go straight!" ...and stopping 1 foot behind the SUV's bumper, I was immediately aware of several things: 1.) I'm SOOOOOO glad I've been practicing 3-4 fingers on the front lever 2.) I'm SOOOOOO glad I've been practicing APPLYING FRONT BRAKE FIRST!!! 3.) 3 cars behind me were now to the left and right of me, avoiding the whole mess and not smashing us into the SUV.
Had I leaned, we'd have been on our sides in a split second, enjoying one heckova road rash along with the bike. And one of THEM could have run OVER us. 4.) Had I had a MT on the back, I would have hit the back of the SUV - no doubt whatsoever about that. Both tires made some small squealing noises as I managed not to lock either up. I recall hearing both at once. As God is my witness (and He is), this is the truth. -g

Yes, we have also done tests with MT's vs CT's in panic stops. Not only do the Darksiders notice the extra braking right away, but they win the panic stops every time too.
I'll be interested to see what that guy has to say about the tires. Can you post a link afterward?

Good reporting on that. I would really love to see some instrumented tests by the magazines.
