Plus I would ask the same specialists what's the risk of using a van tire, yes I wrote van tire, not car tire, because the tire you're talking about is a van tire with a V speed rating.

Yeah, I checked the web looking for the tire you're talking about and there's only one in this size. Not 2, one! It's the Vredestein Comtrac and it's a van tire!!

Pass around what you're smoking, dude, that must be some good stuff!

Unreal!
Yeah, it's a van tire...rated for 1850 lbs. - I'd have to do a wheelie with the ol' lady and full camping gear aboard and do a 3' dropoff to fully load that tire.
As for putting it on a rim for a 140, I dunno, that might be a first. It's a little pinched in on the Heritage, coming from a 150. I sorta doubt that 10mm more difference will affect it much though. He might have to run a couple lbs. more air to keep from wallowing. I'd like to see a pic of it mounted.
I've taken mine up to 100 mph once; it was as smooth as can be, but I don't ride that way.

It's not 10mm, it's 25mm wider than a 150, which is already 10mm wider than stock. That's a lot.
I don't think a reputable shop will accept to mount this tire on a 3" rim and they should not.
A 1,850 lbs load rating just shows how inadequate this tire is for a bike.
What's next? A car tire on the front? Snow tires?

That's 29.5 mm per side - probably gonna do something weird, but we won't know unless someone tries it.
Despite an 1850 load rating, the tire is incredibly good in every way. I like the capacity because I'm technically overloaded a lot.

Wider is not always better. I went from a 180MC tire on my 5.5in VTX rim to a 205CT.

If I were to do it all over I would have gone with a 195CT.

, am i missing the plot on this thread , a guy sticks a car tyre on a bike rim , this isnt an ultra wide custom thingy . just a standard touring bike rim , what a muppet . hope you stay safe fella , this isnt a good idea for long term , long distance use . you may get away with it on a custom show bike that will do very few road miles . whats the speed rate of the tyre

i've got close to 10k on my Fatty since going to the Darkside,

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT

twisties - no problem
grooves - no problem
tar snakes - no problem
wet roads - no problem
high speed - no problem

& the best part,, the rear brake is actually functional in an E-stop ( what a concept ) instead of just locking & sliding

Let's see. Guys can afford a $25000 toy sitting in the garage. But can't afford the proper tire. On the same lines as the guy I read that wants to put cheaper oil in his primary. Not for me. I'll use the correct tire and oil. Just my opinion.

has nothing to do with " can't afford the proper tire " & has everything to do with all the tire co's out there raping my wallet every 5/7k for crap motorcycle tires, when the same tire co's manufacture auto tires that go 60/80k with no issues.

get a clue, or just stay in your box with all the other sheeple

I like how the DS'ers a quick to jump on people who don't think running a car tire is for them. They are apparantly "clueless" because they don't mind paying for MT's.

Running a car tire is not for me, so now I am "clueless, live in a box and I throw my money away".
