Default Is Bright *** Lights Crazy Or Am I ?

A while ago I called BAL asking for a dealer in my area but there wasnt one. They said to talk to my local dealer and that maybe I could get a discount.

Long story short I spoke with both of my local dealers and got 1 them to carry the product and sparked interest in the product that none of them had heard of before.

I called BAL back to ask about the discount and they said No. They said they meant that the dealer might give me a discount not them.

I'm "kindof" in the industry and mentioned this to a few guys at work and they were all very surprised. Most companies have sales reps who's whole job is to get new accounts. When it comes to a company selling replacement Harley taillamps I would think a Harley Dealer would be like gold to them..

Not that its the end of the world or anything but it just seems like bad business not to say "Yeah thanks for the effort we will give you 10% or 20% off".

Am I Crazy?

I don't know anything about BAL as a company, but if they don't sell direct, they can't give you a discount. They would have to give the dealer the discount and trust that the dealer would pass the discount on to you. If they do sell direct, why did they refer you to a dealer? This may be a problem with logistics more than anything else. If your dealer is cool, try having their parts manager call BAL and ask for the discount on your behalf, you might get a little further that way.

You'd think they would give you some sort of discount for getting a dealer in your area to start carrying their products.

bal's been around a while. those lights aint cheep and they sell alot to police motorcycles across the country. i dont think they are hurtin for business and probably dont care much if your dealer ordered a light or two. hence no discount. jmo

You would think the dealer you turned onto Bright *** Lights would give you a discount as a thank you for hooking them up with a new supplier

If BAL discounted the lights directly, what incentive would you have in buying it from one of their dealers? A lot of companies won't take sales away from their dealers because if they do, there is less incentive for dealers to sell their products. They do offer the products to their dealers as a discount. If the dealer wants to sell them for less than MSRP that's up to them. Some manufacturers watch this closely and may end a dealers "license" if they sell them too low.
