I had the smoked one on my '09 and they warrantied it. And as said it is a "somewhat" sealed unit.

not same bike, but my street glide fear fascia running light let in water made my light fail. It was out of warranty so i bought the run / brake light version. Like past posters have done, i ran a bead of silicone where the wire go into housing to further waterproof the light.

Just installed run / brake version , washed bike after rainy week in laconia,it now has water in it.I will bring light back for replacement and will seal perimeter of lens as that is where it is leaking. Amazing that a 2+ year old issue is not redesigned by the Motor Company.

I fixed mine by using a very small drill bit and drilling a hole in the left side bottom so the water will drain when bike is on side stand. Doesn't keep it out but cures it for me.

Mine does it had it replaced and it still gets water in it, may have to just drill a small hole in it.

As said before it is is normal. What I did was to pop off the lens, clean up all the water and squeeze a large blob of dielectric grease in the socket. insert the bulb and a bit of the grease will ooze out. Then take that and build up a bead around the base of the bulb to seal out water from the socket

After reading this topic, I went to check my new to me bike, only 4 weeks old (for me, 2010 Ultra Classic), and I too had water in the rear tip light. It's just out of warrenty and was just fixed by the dealer for failed rear breaks due to the recalled switch. A new one was almost $100 so I just decided to install my own LEDs in the orgional housing. It will come apart, but not easily. I disassembed it, removed the led board and drilled the chrome piece to press fit my 0.400" diameter red LEDs in from the back. Sealed it back up and wired back up. Now it works as it should and I know it is water tight! I love the bike, just a little worried...owned for 4 weeks and already had two issues! What's the next issue to come up?
