my 103 pulls like a freight train until 4,000 rpm, then drops dramatically. The bike is totally stock with 1900 miles.
Is this due to the restriction of the stock air cleaner and exhaust?
Take a look at some dyno sheets from stock bikes. The lines tend to start their nosedive right around that range.
Free flowing pipes, and free flowing air filters do wonders for that. More air in, more air out. (Of course you have to add some fuel to compensate for all that extra air flow).
Cheapest bang per dollar, as far as power increase is concerned.
VERY noticeable difference.
my 2010's bone stock. It seems to run better now that its got over 2,000 miles on it. Maybe on to something about the 5,000 mile break in thing. I guess I'll have to find out. No money to change anything just make another payment. Glad I like it the way it is. HMT
when you say replace the air cleaner, do you mean just the filter, or go with a more open housing?

Already answered by multiple others, but yep, replace the housing. I went with an S&S on mine, and am very happy with it. Any of the open element styles will produce the same result.

Normally from 3000 to 4000 RPM's and up to 5000, I am changing gears, but I do like to stay around 3000 RPM's in normal riding conditions and have all the power I need.
