Adding air to the rear tire on a 2011 RKC

It's a major pain the ***. Get one of these from your local RV store.

Stick it in one of your bags in case you need some air on the road.

I use a system that I read about on this forum. If you do a search you will see exactly what I did. I will attempt to help you, if I can remember all the specifics. I went to Wally World, purchased an $8.00 hand tire pump, cut off the hose, and clamped a shrader valve on the end I cut. The original end has a clamp which fits over the tire valve on your bike. So, I have an extention about one foot long. I clamp one end onto the valve stem on the wheel and the hose is then lying on the floor. Very easy to access and put in the air, also very easy to check the air pressure. I know I am not very clear, but there is an excellent post on this forum which will clarify it for you. Good luck.

I bought a foot pump. It has about a 24" hose and a crappy gauge. I bring it everywhere. I use my digital gauge to measure, and the crappy one to indicate pressure rise. Ya, pulling the bag sucks, but i guess one slight down fall to all the storage.

RAK1, I feel your pain brother. But you can pick up a little cheap air compressor at wally world for under 20 bucks. I have had mine for years and it works on my 11 limited. The motorcycle jack I got thru jc whitney, 78 bucks, it worked fine for my sportster so im sure it will be just fine for my limited. I know how you feel about the budget, I have a faimly also, but like you said "when you ride, you are free" but the chity thing is, you have to go back in a while, LMAO... Take it easy and I hope it gets better man.

valve stem extensions
Hey give the guy a break, what he is saying is true it is a design flaw.I have a 09 RG with spoke wheels and it is impossible to put air in the rear tire using conventional methods. There is a solution though-valve stem extensions. With the extension you need not take off the bag and can use most air pumps, gas stations etc. This forum has been extremely helpful to most of us,some people still need to stroke their ego with their comments,

Just get a valve stem extender. Same stupid design on the 2009 RKC. You don't have to remove the bag (just lay down to get under it) and screw on the extender. That gets the end far enough away from the rim you have room to move between the spokes.
I keep the extender in my windshield bag in case I need it on the road. Only cost a buck or two for a pack of 4 from the local auto zone.

Don't make me explain how great this works. The gauge stays on while you add air.

I have a 09 Road King Classic which recently got a flat. I went to the gas station across the street to fill it up, and to my suprise, more than a pain in the *** to put air, I couldn't due to the chuck. Luckily I had towing and tire/rim warranty. Bike towed, new tire installed.
I e-mailed customer service @ HD and let them know my disgust that you spend $20,000 on a bike and can't add air. A case manager called me back and spoke to me about it. She did research on the issue and thjis was not a known problem with HD. I said you mean to tell me that no one who ever bought a HD with this issue has contacted you? The case manager said that was correct.
I explained to her the the engineers who design HD's should look @ this problem and come up with a solution for the rider who may need to add air.
I am gonna try the Camper World item you bought and save a headache.
Anybody who is gonna buy a HD with spoked rims, ask the salesman how do I put air in the rear tire. Very quickly it is a known issue, but not according to customer service @ HD headquarters.
Good Luck!!
