I waited until after the 1000 mile service before I did my stage 1 upgrades and dyno tune.

Ed,
It wasn't a stock ecm. It was a SEPST "starter" map for an HQ113 that the tuner has used before. In fact, it's his start map that he uses to tune every HQ113. It still wasn't good enough to do any real miles on............
He needs to come up with a better starter map, if he's worth his salt,.....
That, or touch it up on the dyno before turning you loose for breakin.

You are saying that he has a poor starter map, yet he uses it on all his builds?

Why no horror stories? Not everybody posts the internet.

I'm not talking super lean, like 14.2: to 14.4:1 at cruising. Like you said, you keep doing them the way you do and i'll keep doing them the way I do.

Anybody ever hear of "micro welding" the rings? Comes from overheating them during breakin.
You end up with less power and you won't know why,.... until you put your rings under magnification and see little aluminum specs on them (that came from the pistons). Only cure is to replace the pistons.

I wonder,.... how many people build a motor, and don't get the dyno numbers they were expecting?
Ever hear of that happenning? Surely you've heard of them, met them, or was one of them.
Most think they just had a bad tune or bad luck.
How many put their rings under a magnifying glass?

.

WOW!! LOL! Now I'm more confused than ever! Just did a search to find out the best way to "break in" my upcoming build & found this thread! So many respected builder/tuner members and just as many opinions!
