Default My Road King EAT,S headlight bulbs..

I can not believe how often I go through headlight bulbs..I have an 07 Road King and cant get much more than 4000 miles on a bulb..During the day I run high beam and when I am at a stop sign or what ever I guess the bike vibrates so much it looks like I have a modulator on it..Harley bulbs, those Silstars or what ever I try they just dont last..I also have an 06 Road King and it is not much better,so do you guy,s have the same trouble?

Silverstars don't have a long life span compared to oem halogens. Try piaa or Hellas.....

Doesn't sound right to me. I had around 48k on my '06 RK original headlight bulb before I replaced the whole thing with the HD Dual Halogen headlight.

went through one headlight in 3 years 25,000 miles and its beacause I broke one of the ends off taking the fairing off think you might be over charging and burning them up

Don't know, but I had a bike long time ago that the socket did not fit tight on the bulb. Wrapped wire around and around the socket and tightened the fit and bingo, no more problem. Just a thought.

No trouble with mine. 06 RK.
Wonder if the high beam use has anything to do with...
Got an after-market fairing on the bike? Thinking maybe you're getting more vibration than usual..

i had trouble with one going through the bulbs as well. got tired of it. replaced the whole lamp with a sealed beam like the older models had but used the halogen model. cost me about 10 bucks. rode it for the next 5 years without a problem and was plenty bright.

I've got 40K on my SG and it still has the OEM bulb in it. I would suspect it is the replacement bulbs youl've been using. There is no way they should go that fast.

It won't hurt to check your voltage while the motors running, but if you were overcharging that bad, you would boil your battery dry in short order.

Unless it's vibrating very noticably, it's not vibration. The softtails have way more vibration than a RK and they don't use bulbs like that.

I'd try to get an OEM bulb and see if that doesn't last 40 or 50 thousand miles.

Trying to blame it on the ground doesn't make any sense either.

It could be a physical problem like someone was saying about the socket, but that seems unlikely too.

Good luck

I was on my fourth headlight bulb in my 2009 when I went with the LED setup. The first was replaced for a little brighter (the HD "high performance" bulb) bulb. That was replaced almost exactly a year later, the low beam was burnt out. That replacement lasted 40 days until the low beam went out on it, also.

On the other end, I have a buddy with a 1993 Cow Glide which is still on the original headlight bulb. He has been complaining about the headlight being dim lately...
