Ok so I went ahead and put in another bulb.checked all the wires and plug all looking good..but did notice a very slight burn mark on the bad bulb that I pulled,so before I installed the new bulb I put just a very small amount of dielectric grease on the 3 connector terminals inside the plug that connects to the bulb..only other thought is both of the bikes that give me this same problem have PC3s on them,and i THINK MAY NEED TO TURN THE IDLE UP JUST A TINY BIT..When at a red light if you look in the mirrors behind you they vibrate so much you can see that there is a car behind you but could not tell how many people in the front seat until you increase the idle with the throttle,then every thing just smooths right out..According to the tach idle is 8 - 900 RPM,s

 

Capt. The system is not designed to run high beams all the time. it is only strong enough to run for short times. If you run high beam all the time you are placing a load on the system that is not designed to do so.

 

In reading some of the posts here it looks like some folks may be using auto bulbs. I've been lucky a time or two but generally these suck at handling vibration and they fail earlier on average. If you're getting flickering at idle and your charging system is healthy then it's the filament shaking all over the place and this will cause the bulb to fail faster than anything.

Be sure to look for vibration-resistant bulbs. You generally have to order them. The moco bulbs are vibration resistant, and they have far heavier filaments - just don't put out a lot of light like they should. Brighter bulbs are usually running hotter and thinner filaments hence the short life. The packaging on these bulbs is usually pretty honest about this but you gotta look for the fine print.

 

My low beam just burnt out this week,maybe 5000 miles on it,,,,,,,,,I'm running Extreme Xenon High Output H4 Super Spots. HD service tech they are supposed to be better than the PIAAS,,,buull shhit. With a lifetime guarantee, I'm taking the bad bulb in tomorrow and then selling it online. Putting in the HD Performance Headlamp Bulb in a fewminutes

 

All the bulbs I used were from the MoCo, and installed with clean cotton gloves (to keep the bulbs clean). The stock one was still good when I replaced it for more light, the "high performance" bulbs just didn't last very long for me. The LED light is so much better that I will not go back to bulbs (when I add a second bike to the garage again, it will have LED lights before it leaves my garage the first time).
