Se Hydraulic cam plate upgrade kit question

Some models had a problem with the drive gear/cam retention bolt breaking off, and causing a catastrophic failure...
Of course it would be catastrophic, can you imagine that happening at 80+mph? Just idling, there are enough RPMs to bend the hell out of a valve and/or completely lock the engine up!
(BTW, there was a recall on specific models for this problem. Check this site out and see if yours is/was included- http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/C...bmLocale=en_US . I had another recall on mine, which the MoCo had no problem honoring, and that was just last year- ten years after the recall was issued!)

Dawg I have a couple of questions maybe you can answer for a wannbe wrench like me.
Is that just new cam and engine sprocket bolts?
When I got my new plate I just took it to the dealership with my old plate and told them to press the cams out and put them in the new plate I had bought some new front bearings too.
My other question is I thought one of the big deals about the new camplate was that you didnt have to press in the bearing and cams like the old plate, something about parent material, but they said no still requires a press. It doesnt bother me either way cause my plate is together with the cams in so whats done is done, but just wondering for my knowledge.

Thx for the info, Ill have to check my bag of hardware that came with it cause I could have sworn that it had the new bolts in it with washer but maybe I was wrong. Its to bad about the hybrid plate and the conversion plate guess I didnt understand the difference but getting the idea now. Thks again

The conversion kit is simply using a stock 07 and later TC96 cam plate and stock parts with it, with the exception of the cams. You would need conversion cams because the TC88 has smaller inner bearings. So, the conversion cams have a TC88 rear and TC96 front so to speak. The SE hydraulic upgrade kit uses a new plate design to allow one to use the new style tensioners and the newer style oil pump, but maintains the TC88 style cams. It uses a new front roller chain, but you have to use your old style rear chain.
