Unhappy :( Oh Boy, Wife's Brake Light Stuck ON

Well, I'll start trying to find the stuck switch on the wifes 08 FLHX. Cruise control went out during the beginning of a long trip.

She advised me but after a couple hours on the road I had her ride ahead and sure enough her brake lights were stuck on.

After checking everything I pulled her brake light fuse to disengage the brake lights. Geezzz, Made it home but she wasn't a happy camper.

Sounds like the switch is either stuck or the little plastic nipple broke off the end of it.

brake light switch could be bad. there is also a brake light relay that can go bad. on my 06, the brake light relay and starter relay are in the fuse block. they are the same part number. if thats the case on yours, switch them to se if that helps.

Ditto what head said, if you swap the relays and the light still stays on you probably have a bad switch. I just went through this on my bike and it was the rear switch.

Fixed this issue on a friends bike yesterday. It was not the switch. It was the lever. the lever was not long enough to maintain contact with the switch at all times. Put some double stick tape on the lever and it was fixed. It was a Harley Edge cut series lever. We tried bending a portion of the lever so it would make contact but that did not work.

Same thing on my '08 SG a month ago. My clue that something was wrong was that my cruise control wouldn't engage. It was the switch.

Also, check the tightness between the switch housing and the lever housing.
If either comes loose they can separate just a little and this will activate the brake light and disengage the cruse.

Test the rear brake light swith, easy. Follow your brake line back from the foot pedal, in the line you will see the switch, there are two wires going to it. Unplug them and see if the light is still stuck on, if it is then it's your front brake light switch in the switch housing. If it's not on then it's the rear, you will have to bleed your brakes if it's the rear. the front can be a pain in the as^ to get the wire solderd and tucked into the housing.

Had the same problem when I switched out my Handlebars, ended up being the lever contact up on the controls, took off the control cover and discovered that the switch assembly had slid over just a bit, used a flathead screwdriver to push it back in, put everything back togather and wooolaaah FIXED

I had the same thing happen to my RK - I had to have the master cylinder (plunger etc) rebuilt. HD has a kit for it. After trying to un-stick it with all the remedies mentioned here I brought the bike in. The dealer knew right off the bat - they told me there are two possibilities 1. the master cylinder kit or 2. the plunger switch in the lever. Mine was the master cylinder.
