License plate, one rider swapped in a rear light bar from a road king/ softail.
Mounts the plate under the bar.
bar has LEDS in it.

I'm thinking I'll go that way

I thought they were LEDs also. If you open up the Turn Signal Bar, like I did, you will see they are just little light bulbs, not LEDs.

I had this done recently and paid a local bike shop $150 to install the complete quick detach tour pak kit. Local HD shop wanted $450.

Why not just do it yourself?
Pretty easy.

I agree.
The license plate bracket that comes with the kit is lame.
I shortened the backing plate by 3/4" and threw the reflector bar in the trash to get the plate down lower.
Looking into the Road King route to get it under the tail light.
