If my harley is sitting at idle in the garage, what should the oil pressure gage read? Mine's reading at the first dot above zero. When I rev the engine it goes to about half (32). What is the normal range for the oil pressure gage to read when sitting at idle? I've just had the bike serviced, but it's hasn't been ridden. I'm just starting it and idling it. This has been going on for a month. Thanks for any help.

about 6 PSI at idle. 30 - 32 with throttle. You're good. Red oil lights not coming on right?

That is normal. These engines require volumn more than pressure. You can gain a few psi by going to a fueling pump, which in turn also raises the volumn pumped through them....

I do not know what normal is. my 2010 runs above half under load. Anything above zero at idle is good, IMHO. a lot depends on external variables, such as oil weight, outside temp, engine temp, etc. mine tends to be higher when the bike is cold and lower as it warms up. I have 2 RG's the guages, both hold pressure over mid point under load but the idle pressure is different on each. 1 is a 103, the other is a freshly put togerher 110. hope this helps.

The oil lights not coming on, until I turn it off. While it's running the oil lights off.

youre fine. many harley engines dont have much pressure at idle. thats why on carbed motors that i could i'd adjust the idle up. did a lot for idle oil pressure. harley oil pressure gauges almost look like tachometers with the throttle!

You are good. My metric had more pressure at idle, but there have been many questions similar to yours on here and everyone agrees that while the seemingly low reading may be a bit disturbing it is pretty much normal. Oh and BTW welcome in.

Oooh, I know the answer to this! It should read 0.............because you're bike shouldn't be idling in the garage! Did I get it right, do I win a prize?

Thanks for the replies, I feel better now! Just for kicks, it's a 2007 Street Glide, original everything, with 55,000 miles, mostly highway. What would be a fair asking price? I'd love to keep it but it's too much bike for me. I'll need something lighter.
