**HOW TO** True Duals at home
#31
Whats the difference? Unless you buy a set of race headers, which are 2", you have the same 1 5/8" head pipes as the stock ones with any brand you choose. I had a set of Rinehart's on a previous bike and guess what 1 5/8" pipes! Head pipes $420 vs fulsac $169

It worked great and was really easy. I already had the rear cyl y pipe off so i was ahead of the game. The 1 5/8 freeze plug fit perfectly in the short left side pipe just tapped it in with a hammer. It fit snug enough that i didnt even have to tac weld it. After re assembling right side i started it up to check if there was any exhaust leaking around plug and it was not. Good solid seal. The bike is actually a little bit louder and sounds better. I wasn't expecting this but i guess since i now have 100% of exhaust going through 1 muffler that makes sense. Havent gotten to ride it yet due to 6 inches of snow but it seems to rev quicker and smoother. That may only be my imagination!

Take your factory y pipe to your local muffler shop, have them cut off the end that bolts to the head , bend a piece of 1 5/8 pipe to exit out left side and match up to factory pipe. Weld original end on and presto! true duals. Save 140 150 bucks. Oh yeah you'll need a straight piece 14 16 inches long swedged on one end to fill the gap on the right. If you have an independently owned shop in your area they probably won't charge much to do it.
