At my 1000 mile service the stealership recommended RedLine Heavy in the trans and I went with it. Tranny makes less noise and it is much easier to find neutral. I don't have a great amount of experience but it seems to be working for me.

At 1000 miles went to syn3 and then changed to redline heavy at 3000 miles just to see if any inprovement and it seems smoother and no more clunk, i have only 100miles on this change so time will tell.

Harley holds all the cards and they really don't have to prove anything. If they want to deny a claim, all they have to say is you used a gear oil and we specified a 20-
W-50 motor oil.

Amsoil actually recomends 20-50 in all three holes. I was running amsoil gear lube 75-110 in the tranny b4, tried 20-50 this time and seems quieter and less fussy going from 1st to 2nd gear.

Is this the Dealer you bought the bike from? Do you have another Dealer close to you to compare stories? I assume you bought the extended Service plan? The reason I'm asking, all the Dealers around here sell Amsoil. Most will include it with service for the same price as Syn3. If you have a warranty and plan to keep the bike and have it serviced there, I would go with what they recommend. Then if something fails, they can't deny your claim. If you are going to do your own service, use what you want! They won't know the difference. Unless you use Redline. It looks like Pepto Bismol and sticks to the gears like you won't believe. I would not use Engine oil in the tranny!!!

if they ever tell u if u use brand a or well deny your warrentei ask for it in writing, and watch them backpeddle.if they tell u u can only use harley oil they must provide it for free.although the lawyer to get it will cost a ton.

He's not the only dealer around here that doesn't like Syn3 in the tranny.
I usually ask the mechs what they run in their own bikes. None use Syn3 in the tranny.
