Default 05 RK oil level ? sorry

I changed all fluids for the first time today [just bought the bike] so bare with me.
Everything was changed by way of the owners manual, I haven't gotten a service manual yet.
Manual says 3.5 qt for motor. Check on jiffy stand. After filling, dip stick read at half, right where it should be cold.
After riding I let it set an cool [I know I should have checked it hot also] and checked again. Then it read low.

Does the owners manual take into acount the oil filter amount?

It looks like it may take several more oz. But don't want to over fill.
Has anyone else found this?
Thanks

BTW. Tried to find this in the search. No luck.

Do what the book says. Check the oil when the engine is hot. Add when the level says ADD.

After filling with oil it is a good idea to run the bike then check heated oil. It should come up to or close to the fill hot mark on you stick. Make sure you completely insert the stick then read.

Be careful not to add too much oil. If the oil isn't below the fill mark your okay. If my oil reads past the half way mark, cold, then it will start to blow out the air cleaner.

This means you must screw the stick all the way down!

It doesn't "screw" down. The oil fill/dipstick is a rubber "plug". Make sure it's pushed all the way in.

On my 2005 Electra Glide, full hot comes out to half cold.

Don't overthink it. If you put 3.5 quarts in, you're good to go.

Oh yeah...Invest in a service manual. I do little more than change my own fluids, but "speak the language" much better after purchasing the manual.

I believe they switched from the "plug" to the screw type in 07 or 08.

Got it fellas.
Took her out and got her up to temp.
Checked it hot and was still at the add. Added just enough to
bring it up to just over half. Should be good to go.
Thank you.

Yes a service manual will be on the way soon.
Parts manual to.

No, my '03 Oil has the "plug" and the tranny had the screw in.
