According to federal law...states can have stricter laws than federal...Cali for example...it is not legal to run one after dark.

Default Agree!

I agree 100%. Distracting and unsafe, especially when the flashing lights are extremely BRIGHT!

Wow...great thread for a dreary sunday afternoon!

better than oil threads....pipe threads....ear plugs.....seats.....etc, etc, etc...lol

I pretty much ride all the time with my passing lamps on......and sometimes I get flashed for that!

So I guess you got my blessing to flash away but I won't.
In group rides, poker runs, etc-I turn mine off-my choice to modulate or not to modulate.

i don't think it is legal to run one after dark anywhere. thats why they come with light sensors so when it gets to be a certain darkness, they stop modulating......

Count me in as one who thinks it is annoying and dangerous. Had one coming toward me today in daylight and it was bad enough. Couldn't help but wonder how bad it would have been oncoming at night. Disco's DEAD!!!

I haven't read throught this entire thread, so I'm sorry if it's been covered.

But I've noticed that when they are coming at me, my eyes are drawn to them like boobies in a tube top. Well, we all know from riding bikes that whatever you are piloting, be it a car, motorcycle or tricycle, you go in the direction that you are looking, it's a proven fact. So explain to me how these are supposed to make the rider safer?

In short, annoying and dangerous IMHO.

Um, did you know you can run with your brights on legally during the day? And modulators don't turn on the brights as intense as full-on.

Right, because so many people cross into oncoming traffic to hit the modulating headlight vehicle. Like police cars with flashers, etc.
