Default HD Heated grips - why so many settings?

Does anyone know there's so many numbers to select on the heated grips when 1 is barely lukewarm and 2 fries your palms????

what purpose do the other numbers serve??

Gee, wish ANY of the numbers would give me heat. HD has to come up with a better design for their heated grips. Let us know how long yours work!!

Thought it was just me, but I would tend to agree. 1 isn't very warm at all and I can't hold onto them for very long on 2.

I use the unused ACC switch on dash as on off point which makes easy to shut em off in case it gets hot and on when cold and leave the stupid dial hard to use with glove and hard to see while riding alone on # 3.

@1 to 3 warm at 4 up need light gloves on. sounds like yours are acting up. I got the nastalgic ones cause a friend of mine had the crome inlace ones and it would melt the grips. He had them for 4 years and still worked but took them off cause the metal flame desighn melted the grips so bad they looked fugly.are yours the plain ones? the metal ones conduct to much heat?

I have the aileron heated grips on my Ultra
and have had 2 seasons with no probs as of
yet, (knock on wood) from what others have
posted with their HD heated grips. I run from
the "3" mostly but twist on up to 4 or 5 if it
gets cooler.

Default std heated HD grips

@2 they are about right for 45 degrees and light gloves. It appears that thicker gloves would need a higher temp?? especially when it gets colder.

Used mine for the first time last weekend. Set on 3 with insulated gloves it was too warm. Rolled back to 2 and it was fine. The air temp was in the low 40s.
