Default lowering a road king

I have been riding a sporty for 10 years and really need a big girl bike!! I would love a road king for trips, love the convenience of the hard bags. However, I am only 5'2' and do not want to have to stop on my tippy toes. I read a previous thread about lowering for someone who is 5'7' and on HD new website, they did have a post about a women who is 5'1" and they where able to lower. I am interesting in a 2004 model that I found, but am curious what the cost would be to lower, how it would affect the ride and if anyone my height owns a RK.

Thank you very much for your help.

You can drop your rear end 2 1/2 '', drop the front 2'' and change your seat. That might help ya out. Make sure if you drop you front end 2'' that you drop your front fender at least 3/4''. Call ron in phx,az. you can get his # at www.bitchinbaggers.com. He can give you prices and you can have an indy do the work. my bike is dropped and I like the way it rides but i'm 6'2''.

Similarly, call Howard (motorcyclemetal.com), a forum sponsor. He is an expert on motorcycle suspension and his customer service is first rate. A good man.

Also talk to the guys at Progressive suspensions...They should have some products that can help along with a good seat and possibly modification from Mean City Cycles.....

There are numerous guys here with air ride suspensions also that can give you some info...Ran into a real short guy with one and he loved it, because he would lower it down to get on and off and said if he was on the highway for a long time, boost it up for the best ride, since you can adjust with a thumb switch...

I used Progressive to drop the forks an 1" and Bitchen Baggers to shorten the rear shocks 1.5". Had Mean City rework a Sundowner seat. Thick sole boots and at 29" inseam I can back this RKC up without a problem. Hope that helps.

I have a friend who is vertically challenged, in addition to lowering the suspension on his new Street Glide and having the seat lowered he also had custom boots built with an additional 1" rise. On our last ride me stated he loved his new bike and was happy he had made the changes.

Look for a pre-09 bike and it will probably fit you from the get go. You won't believe how easy they are to ride over a sportster.
