Default Tire Types

Does it really matter that the tire I have on the front is a different brand than the one I have on the back?

I had someone respond that they would not go with two different kinds to another thread.

I rode my Deuce with and Avon Venom X on the front and a Dunlop on the back. Never seemed to cause a problem. Its not like I am going to rotate them or anything.

Just thought I would ask if there was any rationale to the comment.

Thanks.

My take…
Some are concerned with mix matching brands that might have two different compounds that do not compliment one another.

Different tires with different compounds wear at different rates. I'm not sure if it would be a bad thing or somehow unsafe.

I done that a couple of times on my 07 SG and had no problems. Now run Dunlop Elite 3's and like them very much.

You can mix match brands and rabial/bias ply...it really doesn't matter....I see where some MFG. say that it may track better but if you have a good tire in the front and you are riding in the rain then it will clear a good path for the rear...I have a Bias EIII on the fron and a Pirelli night dragon onthe rear and rode around 7 hours in a downpour yesterday and the bike performed flawlewssly...previous to that i had a Elite II on rear, similar to D402 and previous to that i had a Elite III matched set...really can't tell any differences. 54000 miles on the 07 and benn mixing all the time. I ain't gonna throw away a perfectly good front tire just because they say i should...
