Default Bike lunges at start-up

I have a 08 Ultra and was wondering if it is normal that the bike lunges at start-up with the clutch engaged? It seems its only on the first crank of the starter.

thanks

..no it's not "normal"..it can really only be one thing as far as I know, Clutch-Adjustment... you need to adjust your clutch so that it isn't slightly engaged when starting up..

I have the same issue..... 07 Road King, I thought it was normal for this upon first start. Where should I/we adjust the clutch from?

Is this when you start your bike in gear... Try neutral...You have to give the clutch plates a little time to disengage...try this...start the bike in neutral. Pull the clutch for about 30 second and even 10 seconds really...give it a shot of gas...then Shift in 1st...See how different it sounds.

I always get a surge on the first start in gear. Bike does not really move and I think this is normal. I know my clutch is adjusted correctly. If this is an issue just crank it in nuetral.

That is normal...if you're starting the bike in first gear (or any other gear). My metric bike did the same thing as the Harley

If it doesn't do it when you start in neutral, your clutch adjustment is fine.
Not to be a smart ***, but why are you starting it in gear anyway?
I've been driving manual trannys for 38 years and the first thing I was taught, was to always start in neutral.

Most say start them in N just because of the stress on parts and one other thing. If it starts and lunges you could throttle up by accident and make a new doorway in the garage.

the only reason for starting a bike or car in gear would be if you were parked on a steep grade--start it in neutral.

you should be starting in neutral. Not only for safety reasons, but the added drag is not good on the starter.
