Cool Hit a downed deer this morning at 50 mph

On the way into work at 530 am this morning a truck in front of me hit a deer and part of the animal carcass was flung into my travel lane. No time for swerving or reaction, just had to hold my line and run through the mess. I now have guts, bone and innards splattered all over me and the bike. Hope to get it power washed at lunch time today before it hard dries on too bad. Funny part is i survived by going through the mess. A little car behind me tried to swerve around and ended up spinning out on the greasy spot and crashed into the ditch. Could have been me.

Although there is never enough time to react, swerving to avoid hitting something often has more consequnses that actually hitting it. Glad you made it through...don't wait too long to wash your bike.

My wife and I did the same thing last year on my Rocker. It was dark, about 9:00PM and there were no street lights. I first hit what I believe to be part of a leg (parallel to the path we were traveling), which drove the bike slightly to the left directly into the carcass which was perpendicular to our direction. Same as you, no time to swerve and went right over the deer - blood and flesh were everywhere. Still had about 20 minutes to get home so everything was nicely baked on and stunk.

Happy you are safe - it could have been really bad.

I am really counting my blessings right now for sure. Funny how the Toyota behind me did not fair as well. I think they had to cut the driver out. that car was all bent up. I think they did a 720 in the ditch. air bad deployed on them and every thing. Driver was ok, but the young lady driver says all she could think was to try to miss it.........LOL

"No time for swerving or reaction, just had to hold my line and run through the mess".

No doubt this action saved you from the same fate as the driver behind you. Glad to read you are OK, could have been worse. And as always......Some things you just have to learn yourself.

I hit a deer in my Buick and did over $3000 damage. Glad you are safe and I have often wondered about what I would do if anything was in my path like the big truck tire on the Atlanta Beltway a few years ago.

Glad you are OK. At least the truck hit it first instead of you. Now get all cleaned up and go buy a lottery ticket!

Glad you are alright. A local rider was killed in my area a few days ago when he hit a deer head on.
