I've noticed that on decel I have engine braking until about 1800 RPM's or so, then it seems as if it 'freewheels' after that. Is there something in the computer that causes the engine to act this way?? The only logical conclusion I could come up with is that maybe it's for emiisions. I've driven quite a few autos that kept the throttle opened slightly on decel to reduce emissions. Can this minor annoyance be reduced/eliminated through some judicious tuning??
i was noticing that just this past weekend...when i let the throttle loose it's almost like the brakes go on... no costing at all..an immediate slow down..
I'm interested to hear what is saidon this one.....
Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's on an '09 RG. j1mmy and Silverearl.....I understand that's there is going to be compression braking, but this is different. It does have compression braking until you hit 1800, then it acts as if you've pulled the clutch in. The compression braking ceases and it justs "coasts".
The fuel injection shuts down when decelerating, until around 1800 RPM's. Then it kicks back in with enough fuel to maintain idle. Common with most Bosch FI systems. My BMW does it too, except it's at 1200 RPM's.
This saves fuel and allows the cylinders to cool for a few moments.
Decel fuel shutoff is common to most automobiles, regardless of EFI manufacturer. It is a fuel and emissions benefit as with the throttle closed it's hard to maintain the minimum load required with fuel for complete combustion.
