Default Spacer for cam upgrade.

Well I have gone and done it now and I blame all of you!!!!! LOL!! I went and had the "Y" pipe break on my 04 EGC and decided while I had the exhaust off and was going to have to be working on it, go ahead and do the cam tensioner upgrade kit while I was here.
Well, then I was told while I was in there and had the cams out already, go ahead and drop new cams in and have a whole new scooter and not have to do it bit by bit. So here I am getting ready for the parts to arrive anyday now, figured it would have been last week, and I remeber that someone said about the "Run out" on cams at one point or another?
With me going to the new plate and I have new Timkin roller bearings, that they should just drop back in flush ot am I incorrect? Doesn't the new kit come with a spacer set and how much do I need and how do I check this? Thanks. I have the shop manual as well, but am more apt to find out from those who know and have done it as apposed to read about it and get a headache and still not understand afterwards.

Andrews says to check the pinion shaft runout, and if it's greater than .003 you need the flywheel re-trued.

Some folks go a pick up a few spacers at the dealer, or you could buy the entire spacer kit 25285-08 for $18 so you don't have to drive back and forth in case you didn't get the right ones. The SE tensioner kit does not include the spacers

When I did the cam tensioner up-grade on my 05 Ultra, I had to change the spacer. Bought the kit from Harley.

When I did mine, the original one fit!
Had the kit, it came with the cams I bought.

they recommend .003 or less for gear drives. There are a lot of cranks running around with more.

Yeh, and 'the pinion shaft' is the crank shaft...

Speaking for myself, I'd have to recheck my work just for satisfaction. Everyone makes mistakes, especially on first time runs. It is the mistakes which raise your experience level. I refuse to give in, until I've cut it up with a torch!

Even if the MoCo sent out a lemon, I'd just add a little 'sugar' of my own!

The others gave good info on the cam spacers. The 'kit' is sold with different sizes of spacers just for that purpose. When I went to get it from local stealer, the parts guy opened the bag that was clearly marked 'Spacer Kit' and tried to sell me just one for the price of the entire kit. The computer readout also said it was a kit with 6 spacers, but he knew I only needed one I guess. Good thing I KNEW better!
