Perfect AFR using NightRider Vied's
I started experimenting with the Vied (the variable version) this past week and found that my bike runs best (as far as I can tell) at about 14.00-13.9 AFR.
The dial is incremented from 14.6 - 13.6 AFR adjustability. I first used about 14.4, the bike ran like crap...erratic idling, poor acceleration. Then I went to about 14.0. The bike ran much better, but "good" wasn't enough. I adjusted it down to 13.8 and then max at 13.6 AFR. I did this all on seperate days with ambient temps about the same. I let the bike warm up completely and rode 70-80 miles before I made my observations.
I found that it ran best at 14.0 AFR after several trials. The oil temp is still rather high at about 235-240, but I guess that is normal for the TC 96 engines.
I run Mobile 1 V-Twin 20w50 oil...just incase it matters.
Has anyone else made this determination? I know every bike is different...

Fuel milage
I tested my milage prior to installing the Vied's. With the full lean condition of about 14.6 AFR, I was getting about 46-49 mpg's.
At 13.6 AFR I was getting 34-36 mpg's. At 14.0 AFR I am getting about 40-43 mpg's. I believe that is the "sweetspot" for my bike.
Accelleration is crisp, response is instant, but the oil temp still gets rather hot at 245 degrees. Yes....an oil cooler is in the plans for next season.
Cheers.
