Default Anyone mount their $150 Garmin (GPS) on your bagger?

When I was buying my 2010 Ultra, I remember seeing a GPS "system" at the parts counter at the HD store I was at (Sauk in WI....great people btw). What I also remember was that the price was a ton ($500-$700.....cant remember exactly, but it was a bunch of cash).

I was just thinking, why not just buy a "ram mount" to mount my $150 Garmin on my bars????

has anyone else done this......if so, got a picture? Also, where did you buy the mount?

Seems to easy.....I want GPS, I have a GPS........sounds simple enough, mount the beaaach on there.....no??

You probably saw the HD version of the Zumo 550. The big differences between something like the 550 and a non motorcycle GPS is the 550 is waterproof and built to handle the vibration from the motorcycle.

No I mount my $89 Garmin on my bagger. Works like a charm even though my Motorola Droid X works better as a gps than my gps does.

I've got an older Garmin Street Pilot $100 GPS mounted with a RAM handlebar setup. Pics in my album somewhere.

Yup, it was that simple for me. I thought it would be insane to spend $700 or more for a Garmin/Ram type rig. Since I had a TomTom in my car that I was very happy with.....blue tooth...plays MP3's....SD memory card....stores pictures....audio out jack to my aux in jack on my Ultra.....I figured I'd get a used one on eBay for the bike. I found one nearly new for $75.00 and found a motorcycle mount for TomTom's for about $10.00 as I recall. Also found a cigarette lighter power adapter that is short and works great in the Ultra's fairing without hitting the tank when handlebars are turned. So for about a tenth of the Garmin price I have a rig that still works great after about 5000 miles of use. Oh, I spent another 10-15 bucks for a very nice flexible nylon velcro hood to protect it from the sun.

If I can find a picture or two I'll post them later.

Here are some pictures. I should note this is not the TomTom motorcycle GPS. Those are expensive and have a crappy reputation from what I've read about them.....not very reliable. I use the TomTom 720 model intended for cars.

One of the pictures I'm posting shows "Harley-Davidson" on the GPS screen. I picked it from the TomTom site to be my start up screen......now people think I have one of the super expensive units that Harley sells.
