What fluid to put in the primary?
#43
ok, this might just be me, but, i would not run motor oil in my auto transmission on my f250. an auto transmission, has wet clutches, just like my primary case on my road kings. when you want your clutch to engage, putting oil on it seems to take you in the opposite direction..... but i might be all screwed up.....
i would also not run 10w40, or 20w50, or anything other than heavy weight gear oil in my rear end differential on my f250. the differential has gears in it, just like the transmission on my two road kings. i doubt that 20w50 can keep my gears in the best working order when i am towing 10,000 pound trailers.
i looked into running syn 3 in all three holes, and my mechanic asked me why? i said that everyone else was talking about it, and it wasnt bad for your bike. he said the simplest thing to me..... "put engine oil in your engine, primary lube in your primary, and transmission oil in your transmission."
that being said, i run Torco synthetic in my engine (my mechanic uses it in his bike, and it seems to help my bike run cooler, i do not run an oil cooler, but i do have the Baker +1 oil pan) , Harley primary formula in my primary, and Spectro in my trans (i have a Baker trans, and that is what they recommended, so who am i to argue?)
there are lots of people who are smarter than me figuring this sh_t out. when i become smarter than them, and test my own theories that "suntan lotion" or "Johnson's baby oil" will keep my primary lubricated better than what they recommend, or that "Super Glue" will help my clutches lock up better than what they recommend, i will use what i think i should use.

Amsoil synthetic 20w-50 in the engine
Amsoil synthetic 75w-90 in the transmission
Amsoil synthetic Supershift ATF in the primary
Will the same weight oil work in all three holes?...Sure, and it will probaly never be an issue.
To me it just makes sense to have a fluid that is weight specific for the job it is doing in my scoot. Just my

additives make the difference...
i wouldnt use engine oil in my differentials either...
jus sayin...
as someone else posted...you dont want any friction modifiers(moly) in the primary...Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 doesnt have any...Mobil 1 15w-50 does...
