yeah shocks are the same and will work for a custom. they way i did the fluid swap was an invention of necessity. i'll do my best to describe it, but you can modify it to fit your setup/garage.

tool you will need: scissor floor jack, brass fittings same size at the brass nipple in the shock, and hose to match, large closed ended wrench, work bench.

to drain the fluid: remove the nipple in the shock and replace with new brass fitting and hose. place that end on the jack. sandwich the shock between the jack and work bench using the closed ended wrench to keep it in place (otherwise it will shoot out when you compress it). compress the shock and the fluid will escape. do this for both shocks.

to put fluid in: turn the shock over so the nipple is at the top. fill reservoir with new fluid and compress shock, air will be forced out of the shock so be prepared for bubbling. slowly release pressure and the fluid will be drawn into the shock. as you compress the shock again you will experience more bubbling. the shocks hold about 10 oz of fluid.

This is by no means a professional way to do this. it was simply me adapting to my surroundings and making it work. i can take some pics if that will help you guys, but there are some other threads, like this one https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...oday-pics.html you can find by doing a search.

this setup is similar to mine, but like i said you gotta do what works for you and your surroundings.

I know its the same shock but the customs come lowered from the factory. Would the SG shock make a difference?

yeah i had that feeling when i was writing it. its really not that hard. If your mechanically inclined you can figure a way to do it. you basically gotta compress the shock to flush the old fluid out and pump the new stuff in.

that i'm not sure about. mine was a classic, and had 12" shocks on it. there should be a part # on your shocks. i remember something about if it ends in an A they are 12", and in a C or 9 11".
