If you haven't already done it,check the batterery connections. My 09 had similar symptoms a month ago,it ended up being the battery,it was toast.

I know you don't have a voltmeter on your bike, but on my EG it was reading 12-13 volts until you hit the start button, then it dropped to 0.

Will be checking starter bolts here shortly. I added a full set of gauges, volts are good. The solenoid sounds like it is hitting the starter hard, but not engaging. Dealer is closed today.

Thanks everyone. I limped the bike to Denver with the push starts, and bought a new battery. Works like it should. Thanks

Batteries are tricky. Often show full voltage but will not turn over the motor. Had the same thing happen to me twice! To be safe, I try to replace the battery every two years. High compression motor puts a strain on an old battery.

IWhilst batteries today are much better than they used to be they have a big failing (both car and bike). Unlike in the Golden Days when a battery gave you some warning that they were on the way out, today you get no warning. I can remember going to work the bike started perfectly coming home about 8 hours later, almost nothing. Wifes car did exactly the same. I have talked to several other people who have experienced the same thing. I now follow the previous post and replace the batteries at about 5 years

Just because a battery will start an engine does not mean the battery is in good condition. It's a good idea to have the battery load tested at least every year before riding.

Glad you made it home alright. Sweet looking bike BTW.

Thanks everyone. Stuff like this is all part of the adventure, I guess. A side note, the NAPA store we found did not have the battery, but another NAPA store 15 minutes away did. NAPA would not send their parts driver after it for me. Had to unload a buddy's saddle bag and go get it. Thanks for the help NAPA. For a $170 battery, I would think they would at least get it for me.
