Correct. All "touch" series (newest) iPods are solid state memory. No moving parts. Get a new one, vibration won't be an issue and you'll still be able to manage your music from iTunes.

Get yourself a refurb iPod Nano. You can get an 8GB 5th gen Nano for $99.00 from the Apple store.

Apple Store

Their refurbs are completely checked and refreshed and carry the same warranty as a new one. I have one (3rd gen) and I bought one for my son (4th gen) and have never had a problem with either. You can't even tell they are refurbished. My 3rd gen is an 8GB and I currently have over 1600 songs and still have over a gig of capacity left.

+1 on the Sansa Clip Plus. I bought the 8 GB from Amazon for $55, and found a 16GB micro SD chip at Fry's for $20. So I've got a great sounding flash MP3 player with 24 gigs of memory for $75. It's small, doesn't need any special software, and I clip it on my windshield bad. Can't beat it for the price.

OR ...better yet...go with a very small sirius radio set-up.

8 track player is useless unless you have a book of matches to put under the tape... I know all about 8 tracks but just lost at all this newfangled electronics

Ya got a cell phone leohd? You could always use that if it's capable, could use it for gps as well... They make nice mounts for your bars, kill many birds with one stone so to speak

Actually you could pick up a iPod touch on craigslist for under a 100.00 8 gig, would hold a ton of music and you could use any iPhone mount on your bars, easy access while your riding, holds plenty of songs and you can operate it with gloves on.
