Mileage=Wear....I got 6000 on a Avon, 8000 D402, 9000 Michelin Commander, 11000 Elite III. I want to try the Commandert again as it was very smooth....I just put a Power Commander so i have been throttle happy for the last 2000 miles and won't comment on the tire i have on now...I know it will be trash soon.

I don't know anything about '08 tires but I'm putting a set of OEM D407/D408 Dunlops back on my '09. So far the OEM tires have 15k miles with 4/32 tread left. I've never had a set of OEM tires that has done as well without cupping.

Put Avon Cobra's on 2000 miles ago, smooth and positive, not sure how many miles they will go.

I am ready to replace the EIII on the rear, at 12K miles, which is far better than the 8500-9500 I got from each of the three D402's that preceded it. I will be going back with the EIII for this round as well. I did get 26K out of the original D402 front tire.

I am in a money situation right now & put on some Kenda Challenger tires on f&r. I have about 200 miles on them, with gravel & pavement, & so far I have been happy with them. If I get any mileage out of them I will put them on again. Cost was 125.00 shipped for the pair. As for size on a 08, sorry, I can't help.

You have a few choices.

Dunlop E3's are our biggest seller right now. I have them on my EG and like them very much. I have been a die hard ME880 fan and had ran them for a while. I changed to the E3's so I could give some customers some feedback. Great in the dry and wet.
You can up-size to a 160/80-16 for the rear of the '08, just cost more.

ME880's Great tires wet and dry. I have always received good mileage and grip with these tires on my EG. Lots of diehard Metzeler customers out there.
You can also upgrade to the 160/80-16 for the '08.

D402 Dunlop's staple for HD. This has been a long running tread pattern. Has a good following. Don't look for Dunlop to change anything in the future on this tire.
MU85-16 is a the widest they have for this series.

Pirelli Night Dragon Great tire different tread pattern. More of a performance tire than a touring tire, but overall feedback is great. Thinking of these for my next tire change on the EG just to be able to give some feedback.

Avon Venom Great tires not a huge following but very loyal following. Mileage claims can be from 5000 to 10,000. Seems to be a little softer tire than some of the other touring tires.

Continental has a couple of tires in the mix. Conti Milestone and the Conti Tour. We ahve run these tires in the past and were a great touring tire. I got 14,000 miles on one set of these tires while touring for a month. A little harder compound than some of the other tires. They always performed great in te wet and dry.

Michelin Commarders have been discountinued.

Hope it helps.

I just ordered a E3 for the front that was a D407 replaced under a recall/service bulletin with a D408. The D408 wore out in about 4,000 miles and howls like mad in curves.

My rear D408 with about 6,000 miles is doing fine but I will eventually replace it with an E3 too.

The truth is there aren't a hell of a lot of choices out there for an 09 RK Police with the 17" wheel up front.

I put 16,000 miles on my stock D402s and now have 15,000 on my Elite 3s. They show very little tread wear but I recently developed a low speed shake that occurs if I hit an irregular pavement surface. I can't see anything wrong with the front but the rear has worn way more on the right side than the left. I'm hoping that is causing my problem. I adjusted the steering head bearings and checked everything I can think of including having a mechanic ride and check it out. He came to the same conclusion I did.

I'll probably buy E3s again since the wear has been so good. I consider 15,000 as acceptable tire life.
