Default How do I get the fairing cap off?

Was going to rewire the spots on my SG and a friend's Ultra to stay on all the time and wanted to just pull the fairing cap off. I can get the ignition switch off no problem, but how do I get the small printed board under it off without destroying it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you happen to have the service manual? If not, I highly recommend purchasing one.

The instructions that come with purchased accessories constantly refer you to "see applicable service manual for details of this operation". I would have been lost last weekend if I didn't have mine handy.

but to answer your question:

Remove the two torks(sp) screws (one on either side of the cap), then remove the ignition switch head by depressing the brass release button (on the back of the head) and turning the key counter clockwise untill it clicks. Lift straight up (be ready for the spring to drop out of the head) Then use a 7/8' open end wrench to loosen the retaining nut, remove the nut and spacers. Carefully remove the fairing cap faceplate (just lift it straight up - be carefull not to snap off the tabs). Turn the handlebars slightly left and remove the fairing cap by pulling back and up. be sure you release the wire harness plug before you pull the cap too far away from the bike. Reverse order for reinstallation.

I hope I remembered this correctly. I've slept a couple times since I did this.

Good luck partner.

Thanks. That's what I needed. Wasn't sure if I had to take the nut off or if there was another way.

Glad to help.

I could use the instructions for rewiring the spots to stay on. I hate that they turn off when the brights come on.

Can you send them my way?

Polecat I believe in the DIY section of the forum they have posted the wiring diagram to rewire the spots to stay on.

Go into the Do It Yourself Forum. Look under the Electrical and Lighting section. It's the last post on the third page.

Does anyone have written instructions on this?
