1st oil change - how many miles
#11
I think there's a difference between a new bike/engine off the dealer floor as opposed to a new engine build. The new bikes/engines have gone through a break in period at the factory so you don't need to break them in like you would with a new engine build. Hence the manual saying 1k miles for first oil change.

I'm kinda **** about taking care of my bike. I go by the break in riding instructions in the owners manual. I also don't believe changing your oil and using a good quality Synthetic oil is a waste of money. I changed my oil at 500 miles. At 1K miles I went to Synthetic and changed all three holes. I changed the motor oil again at 2500 miles. I did the 5K on my bike about 2 weeks ago and changed all three again. I'll change the engine oil again at 7500. At 10K I plan to change all three again. Then I will start the 5K mile service schedule. I made a deal with my Dealer when I bought my RK that I would do the 1K mile fluids and they do the rest. He only charged me 130.00 to do his part. Unless I have warranty work, I'm doing all of it from now on. Enjoy your new SG. Ride Safe!
