Default Another Tire Question - 19" This time

I am looking at going to the Agitator wheels this Winter. The stock tire size on the CVO street glide is 130/60-19. What options do I have for a 19 that stays somewhere near the stock profile? I would like Elite 3s or Metzlers, but it does not look like they are options. Am I stuck with the Dunlop at the stealer?

Thanks.

I doesn't look like there's much choice for 19" tires unless you have a Sportster. I would bet you are going to be stuck with a Harley tire for a couple of years until the aftermarket gears up for a large 19" touring tire.

here is something i posted oin another thread about the Agitator wheels..

as far as the "profile of the tires the way they shake out are as follows..

the 17" is a 130/80/17 that = 25.19" outside diameter
the 18" is a 130/70/18 that = 25.17" outside diameter
the 19" is a 130/60/19 that = 25.14" outside diameter... ALMOST identical

as for "options" as far as i know there is no other 130/19" tire available.

i have been looking into doing a 19" front wheel for a while, but i have been hesitant cuz the only tire i could find was a 120/19...and the 19"s that were available are only 3" wide...stck HD wheels are 3.5" wide. There are a few pics of baggers with these 19x3" with 120 tires on HOGPRO website..look in the "baggers" gallery.

my problem is the the only 19" x 3.5" wheel available right now is the Agitator...and the matching rear is an 18" which i don't really want. I was actually reaching out to wheel manufacturers today to see if they would make me a 19x3.5 so i could use the new 130 Dunlop.....

anyway....hope this was helpfull in someway...

Mike, yes, I saw your other post and I believe I replied. Now that I know that only Dunlop makes the 130/60/19, I am hesitant to do it. I would like the 19 on front and a 17 on back. I may have to do it though because I want different wheels and anything else that I want will cost at least twice as much.

...seems like the FEW guys that have gone with the 19x3" wheels are using a Metzler ME880 120/70/19 = which runs only about 1/2 taller then the stock set ups... and it is less then 1/2 inch narrower....and the ME880s seem to be pretty popular and well praised as far as aftermarket tires go.....

I was thinking about this set up too. If I go that route I might buy two front tires so I have one in my garage. That way if I have an issue out of town I can overnight the tire to me.

Please post your response from the wheel manufactures. I am also looking for a 19"x3.5" wheel to use with the 130. I think 17 rear and 19 front would be the perfect setup.

2 responses so far....

one said their supplier does not offer a 19" x 3.5" blank to cut a wheel from.... OK so no help there

the other said that a 19 x 3 "should" work fine with the tire but they were gonna "have their R&D department look into it"........ so no real help there as far as getting a new 19"x 3.5" wheel....

.... i think we are a little ahead of the curve on this one...

p.s. I'm leaning toward 19 & 17 setup also

The 19x3 wheel and 120/70R19 are for V-rods. So there are plenty of tire choices for you. I've run this size on Road King type bikes (ie 700+ lb Yamaha Stratoliner), and it worked great. One thing to remember is v-rod tires are radial. I believe the HD bagger tires are still bias ply. I know you can run rear radial and front bias ply with no problem. I thought it was a no-no to run them the other way. If so then you will need to find a rear radial that fits your rear rim. This is a great size if you want the look of a 21" but don't (or can't) lower the front the bike 1" to make up for the 2" larger diameter 120/70 21 tire.

Ride safe,

Jim
