Default Oil Cooler???

You guy's with oil coolers see much of a pressure drop after installation?
Do you need to install a high output oil pump?

None at all, not enough oil added to worry about, but it does run cooler.

The problem with an oil cooler isn't a pressure drop that the gauge registers. The problem is the restriction in the return line which (some say) can hamper the oil pump's ability to scavenge oil out of the lower end.

Just a little more oil in the bottom end can waste a lot of power because of the flywheels having to plow through the oil ever revolution.

Axtell has a good write up on it on their website.

Every linear inch of tubing and elbow would cause a restriction and would need additional pressure to flow thru it. Just curious if anyone has had flow problems with different brands of coolers.

I have a Jagg oil cooler, before installing it I ran regular HD oil, when I installed it I switched to Redline synthetic oil and my pressure is actually a little higher than before

What some of you don't understand is that Harleys are about flow, not pressure.

When I added my cooler, the PSI went up on the gauge 2-3 PSI.
