Fuel prob (most likely)... Drain, flush, refill.
AND why all the panic (unless OP NEEDED go fast at the point of failure)... everything else on bike still works. Pull over, stop, and troubleshoot.
Man, hate to see the whining if (when) you all experience a blowout... or animal encounter. What will you blame the bike for when that happens???
EDITED to add.... Not meaning to be harsh, and just realized it could be anything (newer bike, with all the fancy computer crap and fuel injection). Which is why I will never let go of my carbed bike...

Bad or dirty fuel would have attempted to start.

I had the same thing happen to me in Sturgis this year. 09 RG cruising out by Mt Rushmore and it just flat out shut down. Ended up being the fuel line came off fuel pump (in tank). Guess the clip broke and the line just popped off??? It was covered under warranty because I failed to let them know that I changed tins and swapped all fuel pump hardware myself..LMAO Its so sad how I cause my own nightmares. Oh ya and even though it shut down on me there was nothing unsafe about how bike acted when it died. Dont think it would be an issue unless you were on your way to do some extreme jump (maybe a back flip) or something. ;-)))) Hopefully your up and running very soon. It took about a half hour for them to fix mine. Good luck

Pittz5 you win the prize. It was same thing that happened to you. Clip broke off on the fuel line inside the tank. Just like you, I had my tank replaced last week because of a dent on it. Sounds like this is an issue people should watch for if they have to replace their tanks.
Dealer fixed it in a couple hours. Just got back from 400 miles roundtrip ride, all good!

Most cagers these days would clearly observe that the OP was having trouble and make way for him.
NNN... NOT!
In this day and age, the OP is lucky to be alive, and not the hood ornament of a soccer-mom-piloted Escalade.
