Another heated grips failure. Whats the failure.
Discovered, like a lot others here, that my heated HD grips arent working. No big deal as its still under warranty, but just wondering what part of these grips are breaking. And just have to also wonder if MOCO is coming up with an updated part if there is a common piece that is prone to failure.

I installed my heated grips myself and I
noticed something that may be a problem
with them but just a hunch. On the wiring
harness that runs through the bars is two
spots where the wiring connects with just
slip connectors, I soldered mine so that
they would not slip apart as the connectors
were very small to me (I guess they need to
be as they are in the bars) I cut the terminals
off and hardwired mine together and have had
no problems as of yet, 2nd year and I hope
they keep on keeping on as they do spoil you
for sure.

Just buy a set of Heat Demons and use your favorite grips. They are far better then the HD heated grips!!

Have had mine for 3 years and not one stitch of a problem..

Watched a Demo last Saturday on heated grips install. Tech was a first rate guy. He too soldered. However...he did say that if you ever get a pressure washer anywhere near those grips, they are toast. Said if you got two seasons out of them that you were doing great... He said "it is what it is."

I disassembled a grip a while ago and posted pics, etc. Do a search for my previous post. I had hoped to find a way to repair a failed grip, but that seems impossible.
There are about a dozen electronic parts inside the left grip and a failure of any of them is likely to fail everything. I suspect the relay is the most vulnerable. The HD grips are unneccessarily complex, I think because of the thermostat feature. A simple high-low-off would have been enough.
That said, I really do like heated grips. Not a substitute for adequate gloves -heated or unheated - but most valuable when it is only slightly cold. That is, cold enough to be painful, but not cold enough to get me to stop and change gloves.
Good Luck.
