When referring to types of riding, the word "touring" is used. I put 6000 on my '06 FLHX this summer. My longer rides were only about 125+ miles long. Is this actually "touring" or is a number of 250 and up more of a touring number?

 

Touring around here more relates to the type of bike, branded by harley as touring models, as for touring riding, Id say its any riding done for pleasure as opposed to just running errands or riding to and from work.

125 miles is a bit short but none the less could be touring. One normally thinks of touring as very long distance. Like this past june/july. 22 of us toured from Florida to Billings Montana and back so we certainly toured on touring bikes. Except for the one sportster who toured on a non touring bike. Better her than me.

 

I’m leaving on a 10 day, 4,600 mile trip on Thursday and I would call that doing a little touring.

I’ve read on these forums of guys complaining of bad head buffeting and wobbling when going over 100mph on batwing equipped bikes, that’s called high speed touring.

 

Touring refers to traveling on your bike in my opinion.

I am fairly new to Harley's and "Touring". I have now ridden UT<CA<NV<NM<CO<OR<WA & parts of Canada... When ever I think I am on a long ride, I usually stop to eat somewhere and meet up with someone on a Goldwing - I stop asking the question "So, how long is your ride this time" Those folks TOUR!!!!!!! I found out early, what I think is a long ride is just a "warm up for them"

Bottom line,,,, A ride, trip or Tour is what YOU make it - thats all that matters

In my little world - when someone talks about a touring bike - I am thinking bigger, bags, pack and the such... We rode a WG for two years and rode/toured CA/OR/WA and Vancouver. I called it a tour, but thats me talking...????

 

I thought I was touring when I went to the grocery store for a 6 pack, but that's my opinion. To me, touring is when you ride and see the sights. I saw a bayou, high grass, and 2 banks.

 

Lets just say that if you spend at least one night while riding your Scoot, that's considered touring.
