Default lowering 07 gearing

I was asked by my wife to get a Goldwing due to the Ultra was causing her to bleed at times. She has stage 4 cancer.
I kept my Ultra because I really like it and on short rides she does good.
I can not afford to trade besides I like mine the way it is in the most part. I have had it for 3.5 years and have over 40,000 miles on it.
I am looking at ways to get first gear lower so it will pull better on take off. This is the only complaint I have had with the bike since new.

I have done a lot of searches and fond several threads and posts but all the links in the are no good now or the primary gear is not show on their site any more.

Any ideas?

Here's a few options:

EVO 30 tooth that replaces the compensator, comes with new chain
EVO 49 tooth ring gear that replaces the stock 46 on the clutch shell, comes with new chain
Andrews 30 tooth tranny sprocket, you'd need a new belt and recal the speedo.

I've done the EVO 30 tooth for 2 years and just took it out and went with the 49 tooth ring gear.

What was the reasoning for changing from the 30 tooth primary to 49 toot clutch gear?
Did you consider the 30 tooth too low. I feel it is some too low. Does you cc still work with the clutch gear/

Thanks

I wanted to smooth the bike out more because of my wife's arthritis. It was a little too low, but didn't bother me much because I had been doing more around town riding than highway. I had cruise with the 30 tooth, but lost it with the 49 tooth. I will get it back when I upgrade my SERT to the TTS and I can change the primary ratio values.

Have you added the IDS to the rear sprocket? That will smooth the whole bike out quite a bit. Second thing is to also add a decent stage 1, which will add 10+ ft/lb of torque to the lower end and give you a much smoother take off.

God bless you and your wife and I'll have you in my prayers tonight.

I have done the full stage 1 with SE255 cams and PCV with AT. Pulls great But when loaded it is really hard on the clutch taking off. I will need to replace the clutch real soon at 40,000 miles. It is started to slip every once and a while taking off. This is 1 of the reasons I want to lower the gearing.
Thank you for the Prayers. It God's hands
Dawg has probably done more than I have, no doubt

Default Consider the IDS

IDS does make for a smoother ride off the start and especially in lower gears.

You prolly already have done it, but if not most guys that have done it, are hapy they have. I know I am.

This is one of those times when you need modern technology to give you a big helping hand. I am not a cam expert by any means, but would a change to a softer set of cams give a better take-off? We need one of our engine experts to pass by to answer that!

I have lowered stock gearing on both my Dyna and Glide, although they have different primary set-ups than yours. It is a great way of improving performance and should also improve getting away from stationary.

Best of luck getting a good solution quickly and for many happy smooth miles together.

When I put in the SE comp and 49T ring gear I also swapped out the stock spring for the older -98A spring that is 330 lbs as opposed to the 300 lbs that they went to. It is not as stiff as the SE spring, but better than the stock one they use now.

I wish the best for your wife and you.

Are you sure a Goldwing would solve her problem?
