Default Starter Clutch OR Compensator why

For those of you who were experincing the following problem:

"When starting the bike.....Starter sounds like gears are about to blow out, back fires" ".Just about everytime I start my bike it sounds like the starter is grinding the gears instead of turning anything. It does the kickback thing also..........."

Why do you think it's the Compensator and Not the Starter Clutch ?

I am not asking the folks here who have anything over a Stage 1 with pipes....

I can totaly understand if the engine has been modified the need for a Heavey Duty Compensator and even a HD Starter Clutch....but a stock engine ?

I have 20k + replaced the Starter Clutch 2 times and going in for # 3 this week - all under warranrty...

Compensator is perfect.....Is that because I have a Full SE Heavey Duty Clutch kit ??

Look forward to your response.....

I would like to here what everyone has to say also.

But try this when starting really helped with mine, when you turn on th run switch the fuel pump starts and then satisfies maximum pressure, you want to start the engine before this happens so do this make sure you hit the start button before the fuel pressure is maximized. I hit the run switch then fast as I can hit the start switch helps tremendously.

How did you determine that the "compensator is perfect"?

18k miles - dug in there like I was going to replace it - gear teeth perfect, no slack, in there like a virgin...

My buddies: did a 103 upgrade on his 2007 - looked at his at 5k miles after 103 kit...you could litterly move the gear side to side....and gear teeth were chewed up....

The stock compensator has a real weak spring, but not so weak that you can slide it back and forth by hand. You can't tell by "looking" at them that they are weak (until you compare it to the upgraded version).
Sure your buddies was totaled, but yours is still a flimsy weak design.

The SE Comp is low cost, and once you get the parts in your hand, you will already know that you should have done this long ago. A humongous difference in spring strength to keep your chit from bottoming out. "Bang!" (Ouch!)
