May be my first post on this forum but I am no stranger to the lifestyle. Been riding hogs since I was in my 20s (thats a long freakin time ago). I picked up my 07 FLHTCU a few weeks back. Yes 1st and 5th are noisier, but my salesman even warned me, something about the cut of these 2 gears being different, I think to handle the stress they get after hard 2 to 1 and 6 to 5 downshifts (the most common events done under the most pressure I think). But then I could be wrong. Been riding my softail since 89 and have put a few gears in the transmission, so I relate. Done HD Fly and Rides for years and the Classics they rent me were quieter in 1st and 4th (5th???), but overall, not enough yet for me to go back and complain. I like the 96 and the 6 speed, glad I waited. My brother bought the 06 and had the 95" kit put in it and he can"t get away from me when we roll it on. Buy one, if it has a problem HD will fix it.
