Default Extended Warranty ESP – Brilliant or Moron

Well after much debating, I bit the bullet today and signed on for the 7 yr ESP (5yr really) Still questioning the move – part of me says I bought piece of mind, the other part says I missed out on some parts. My experience with them has been mixed, seem to get them every time I get a bike……. 2000 wide glide ended up canceling and receiving prorated refund, 2007 Ultra – good for another 2 years and used about ½ the warranty expense, skipped it on the 2010 Sportster, and just bit on the 2011 Street Glide ………
Good or bad gamble??????

Very profitable for the dealer, but if you ride a lot it may be worth it. For the rider who puts 5000/year on the bike, it's usually a waste.

Doesn't look to me like you're the type who has garage queens, so if you're putting on miles and want the piece of mind --- who cares what others think? You did the right thing.

Extended warranty or service plan?
Service plans can be a good deal if you ride a ton of miles and don't do your own service.
Extended warranties usually don't pay off. Again if you put a ton of miles on your chances are better. If you do modifications they may not cover related repairs.

If you ride a bunch of miles and plan on keeping the bike longer than 2 years, then yes it's a good deal.

07 Electra Glide 50k miles bike in the shop as we speak. 2nd time under the ESP...this will be over $2000 worth of work...Freaking genius i guess....Like somebody said earlier... if you only ride a couple thousand miles a year probably a waste of money. i knew i was gonna put between 10 and 20k a year so it was agood peace of mind for me and i was right. I am gonna extend it again...

Brilliant..... if you're the salesman or dealership.

The factory 2yr warranty should easily get one through the period during which you'll determine if it's problem child or not.

Having said that, you said it gives you piece of mind, so if it's worth it to you, that's all that matters.

If you have 2nd thoughts on it, you can back out & they'll refund it.
