Default 2010 engine advice please FLHTCU

Hello,

I just purchased a 2010 Ultra Classic and need some advice. Should I leave the engine stock as it is or should I do the 103" stage II kit? I have an appointment set up next Tuesday to do the stage I slip ons, tune and air cleaner; if I do the stage II103" kit I will save $300 in tuning labor.

This bike is for the wife and I; we will mostly be doing back road country touring and occassional highway trips. I am going back and forth on this and just would like some opinions from others. I have a 2007 Night Train that has had engine work and I love the setup of that bike, however, the Ultra Classic is more touring so I am not comparing apples to apples.

Any input would be appreciated and thank you,

I have 2 2010 utra also
My last bike was a 2006 ultra 95" big bore SE 203 Cams A/N air cleaner and some head work It dynoed at 84HP and 83 torque!!
My 2010 has the fuel motto power package with jacpot slipons, I think it runs great may not have what the other bike had but its damn close. I also have the the 2-1-2 head pipe ordered and should be here in a couple days and its going to jump another 5-6 HP

Sounds to me you wont be happy until its a true Hot Rod, while in the shop, get it the way you want it, them you wont be waffeling about it more later.

Ride On.....

I agree do the 103. The Harley stage 1 is a joke.

Thank you everyone for the input

I have decided I am going to leave motor alone for now and put some miles on it. Besides the money involved in building the motor, I think with the stage I upgrade will be good enough for the wife and I. She don't like to go fast in first place and I can always do the motor later on.

Thank you again and ride safe

+1 Not to be a jerk, why didn't you just get the se 103 bike already done? Maybe I missed something.

Wife wanted a true touring bike with the tour pack, foot rests, ect; think its more of a comfort thing for her. I did look at the 103 street glide, however, at an additonal 2.5k in price, plus I would have to get a tour pack for the wife it just wasn't worth it.

A friend of mine who works in service told me if I wanted to do the stage II kit to a 103" it would be $1500 total - he is the one who told me to pass on the street glide with larger motor because he could build a better motor with cams for less than the street glide.

I am not looking for a hot rod; just wanted to make sure bike would get up and go if necessary. I am sure the stock engine with the stage I kit will work for what I want.

Thank you

Did you miss hearing him say he has a 2010. I guess he did not want heated seats and grips.

Yeah, whatever. Anyway, to the OP, if you are going to be touring with the wife then I would say the stage one you are doing is enough, more than enough. If your cruising with the wife, why spend a bunch of money to "tour"? Enjoy the ride. Drop the money in your night train and have your hotrod bike. The MOCO has spent enough time and money knowing that people want to enjoy a touring ride, and have designed it as such. For your back road and touring, I doubt you will need get up and go. And thats my 2 cents! Ride on and ride safe!
