Once you purchase a new battery from the dealer or anywhere else, you should always put a slow charge on it. New batteries generally are not fully charge.

If you use a Battery Tender, I would recommend you plug it in at least over night after having a new battery put in service.

 

I say plug it in everytime you park it in the garage - good habit to get into and all it can do is help the battery

I have put the pigtail on my battery and the plug sticks out from under my seat - after parking the bike - it gets plugged in.

The battery tender will extend your battery life .

 

I just put a new one in my RK. Bought the Harley battery. Same price. I take mine out for a few months in the dead of winter. 5 years seems fair.

 

so at best you could have saves yourself $48 bucks. i can only speak for myself but ove pissed away $48 bucks plenty of times. Dont beat yourself up over it IMO

 

I replaced my battery 2 years ago. Got it from one of the local battery stores. Cost me $97 plus tax. The Harley dealer wanted $149 for one at the time, so yes, you probably overpaid a little, but it was better than sitting somewhere broken down.

 

I just priced a new Deka battery for my bike and it was $108. Deka is the maker of HD batteries.

 

Yes, you can buy these here for $107 including shipping, which is supposedly the identical battery except for the case color and lack of HD logo.

 

Yep. There is a dealer close to me that I can pick it up at but have to pay sales tax instead of shipping.
